Slacking Lately
So I’ve been slacking lately. I had promised trip updates for the previous two weeks and did not deliver. So here’s the 30 second synopsis of each…
May 22-24
Attempting to maximize the three-day Memorial Day weekend, we planned on Rushmore. Mother nature had something else to say about it. Instead, went east to pocket pull on some Iowa Limestone and crash my family reunion. My friend Troy, gracious as always, welcomed us to a private crag he and some friends have been developing. In the interest of preserving the anonymity of the place, all I’ll say is that it’s choice climbing. Plenty of hard lines, and plenty more going up. With any luck, Troy will convince the landowner to open the place up someday so we can all enjoy this gem!
May 29-31
Vegas baby! I joined a few of the Lincoln, and former Lincoln, crew for a bachelor party/climbing trip in Sin City. Many thanks to Doug, Jon, Al, and Andrew for having me along. And a special thanks to Andrew for putting us up for the weekend. I was only able to join for Friday through Sunday (the rest were out a few days before and after), but those two days were about as packed full of climbing, laughs, and strippers as you can get. Okay there weren’t any strippers (regrettably) but there were plenty of the other two. Notable climbs include Prince of Darkness and the Indian Creek-style splitters Yin and Yang and Atman. I don’t think I could have had any more fun. Even if I was naked.
June 5-6
This weekend saw a welcome break from road tripping. That, however, is not to say anything noteworthy didn’t happen. Thursday, the inaugural route was put up at the silos. A local Omaha climber, Rick Brock, has taken the plunge to put up the first commercial gym in town. The planned location is the abandoned grain silos at 35th and Vinton Streets. This, needless to say, is one of the most exciting things to happen to the Omaha climbing community in quite a while. Plans are still being formed and opening day is not nearly as close as we all would like. More to come on this later, but keep your eyes open for updates on progress…
Me climbing the first route at the Silos

Is there a website or anything about the new climbing gym? Indoors and out it appears. Will there be additional area besides the silos?
No website yet, but Rick I guess has a URL that he's had reserved for quite a while. Would work perfect for this. For now just outdoor stuff. He needs to get someone to clean the inside. Eventually there is inside climbing as well as a bouldering cave a garage on the site. He may even throw up a ropes course.
