Briefly: Silo Update

It’s been a while and this post is a creative departure from those of yore, but it’s time to get down to business. We’ve been plugging away all winter at the red tape office work, you know the stuff that’s no fun and has no tangible results. But spring will arrive faster than a fat kid to an Old Country Buffet so we need to get crackin. Here’s a quick recap of events from the past few months.

Since the last update, the biggest story is the construction schedule of the UNO climbing wall. Apparently come March 1, the wall will be closed for updates, as part of the HPER renovations, through the summer. Not wanting to miss out on a golden opportunity, our schedule has been fast-tracked for an opening date sometime in May. With that, there a mountain – if you’ll excuse the expression – of work to do.

We’ve got the engineers, architects, and lawyers all in a row doing their jobs to get permits, plans, and waivers set up. In the works with these folks right now are site plans, preliminary building layouts, logo design, and (wait for it) climbing wall design. Yes, preliminary conversations are in progress with Rockwerx and Eldorado Climbing Walls to construct a free-standing boulder to supplement the climbing on the Silos. This will hopefully be set into motion within the next few weeks, but if anyone has any input they’d like to throw our way about either of those wall companies, we’d be happy to incorporate it into our decisions.

Unfortunately mother nature has been less than accommodating this winter and has kindly left about three feet of snow on the property. As this melts or as we clear it, construction will begin. When we get more done, I’ll post progress pictures and narrow down the opening date. It’s going to be an exciting and stressful spring for a few of us. I can’t wait for it to start!

Chris- Thanks for the update. I know your company in working on this; how involved are you personally. Is it like every night and weekend? I've been thinking about coming out to shoot some video/ photos. Keep me updated!

Personally, I'm just volunteering my time in a project I'm excited about and want to help a friend. But for the next few months it's going to be as many free weekends as we can stand each other. We'd love you to come out and shoot some video, however!
