Manky Anchor in "Overdrive" Canyon, Escalante, UT. Photo= Ron

Last week, a handful of friends and I set up shop in Grand Staircase Escalante, UT.  We welcomed Spring by hiking through a bunch of narrow slot canyons, and camping out in the middle of no where.  The highlight for me was dropping into an unknown slot canyon (dubbed “Overdrive” Canyon).  We encountered unknown difficulties around every corner (including the junky anchor above).  It was really rewarding to meet the challenges, and come out safe on the other side.  I used to think  I could easily overcome any “mere” canyoneering difficulty because I am a climber, but now I realize canyoneering has it’s own set of unique challenges.  Here’s a few more pictures from the trip.

Thanks guys. The colorful lines in the night shot is a frisbee with LED lights on it.
