Another Chapter of Adventure: Moab

Climbing in Moab, Utah

As many of you know, I have been living the Dirtbag lifestyle for the past year. To tell you the truth, I am still living the dream from my friend Justin’s couch but am in the process of waking up from the most perfect of all dreams.  Over the next few weeks, I will be posting all about this adventure of mine.  While part of me is sad to see it come to an end, the other part wants to be still for a while, catch up with friends, new and old, and feel what it’s like to be surrounded by an amazing community and world-class climbing.

The first chapter started in Chile and Argentina and slowly moved northward to Mexico, where I met up with Eli Powell.  Together we took over El Potrero Chico, Red Rocks Nevada, Indian Creek, Escalante, and Shelf Road. The next chapter has yet to be written….

The Place: Moab, Utah.  The Company:  Red River Adventures.  The Reason: To work as a Whitewater, Rock Climbing, and Canyoneering Guide.  Since being introduced to climbing in college, I have wanted to be a professional guide, and this past summer, I finally got the chance.  I was hired by a mutual friend Carl Dec with the easiest interview I have ever had to “suffer” through.  Carl: “You want to work for me the summer as a climbing guide?”  Andrew: “Yes”  Carl: “You’re hired.  Show up in May when you want to start.”  As I look back, much of summer is a blur; thank you, PBR.  You know you have it good when the biggest and most important question you have of the day is, “Should I go rafting, climbing, canyoneering, mountain biking, swimming, peak bagging, or kayaking?”  With that many choices, you are tempted to almost do nothing because you can’t choose!  (Notice I said “almost”!)  By the end of the summer, my brain and skin were sufficiently sun-baked, and I was off for the next adventure.
